What you’ll do

We are looking for a Communications Engineer to join the ArcBest Technologies team. The primary responsibility of the Communications Engineer is to support voice and data communications for ArcBest.

Your contribution may include:

  • Monitor, operate, install, and maintain telecommunications systems and equipment under direct supervision, in addition to troubleshooting any type of hardware or software problems to ensure that systems perform in a manner which best meets business needs and objectives.
  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment.
  • Assist in the installation of telecom systems and equipment for new facilities.
  • Maintain proper records for system maintenance and billing support.
  • Possess knowledge of data scopes, patch panels, modems and various analog and digital signaling systems.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of T-1 network architecture and operating procedures.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of VOIP network architecture.
  • Possess knowledge of line control techniques and communication access methodology is needed.
  • Oversee service requests with vendors including but not limited to AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.
  • Demonstrate ability to read engineering drawings and terminate cables and grounding systems.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As a Communications Engineer, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technologies Communications team in Fort Smith, AR. Work hours vary based on scheduling. Market coverage is provided 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. Possibility of being on call during non-business hours.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Networking or equivalent field, preferred.

Experience: Minimum, one-year experience in related field, preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Certifications: Comprehensive knowledge of T-1 network architecture and operating procedures. Comprehensive understanding of advanced call routing. Broad understanding of network technologies and troubleshooting device connectivity and equipment. Understanding of AB Tech IT environment, standards, and procedures. Understanding of the work environment of ArcBest and all subsidiaries.
