Currently, we are looking for a Robotics Engineer to join the ArcBest Technologies team. As a member, you will create innovative solutions to business problems by using innovation modeling, mathematical modeling, engineering principals, Automation/Robotics, Lean Six Sigma, computer programming, business knowledge, or other advanced analytical skills. This position coordinates, plans, and executes projects and processes in support of various departments or business units within deadlines, budgets and resource constraints.

The Robotics Engineer acquires team resources and coordinates team efforts in order to deliver results on projects/processes that are part of the strategic plan for ArcBest. This position also provides clear and concise project definition, scope, action plans, and communication as well as develops solutions designed to meet project goals while ensuring quality throughout processes

Your contribution may include:

Mechanical:

  • Design, test, and build robots that are productive and safe to operate as well as economical to purchase and maintain.
  • Use CAD software like SolidWorks to create blueprints and schematics for robotic systems.
  • Work with high-performance hydraulics, fluid and electro-mechanical actuators and sensors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanics and dynamics.

Software:

  • Develop software and processes that dictate robotic systems functionality.
  • Create and utilize C, C++ or Python programming for real-time control and sensor processing.
  • Develop real-time control architecture through MATLAB programming / Simulink design.
  • Develop and document control system requirements & allocate/decompose them to components/controllers as well as develop controls systems design guidelines, best practices, and other processes, tools, & templates.
  • Implement high-bandwidth feedback control in hardware.

Other:

  • Develop dynamic simulations.
  • Utilize Convex optimization.
  • Support existing software by learning and documenting Path Planning algorithms.
  • Use cutting-edge concepts like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to boost performance of robotic systems.

Other Essential Functions:

  • Support ArcBest and its subsidiaries on technical and strategic initiatives.
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end, not to exclude full risk assessment and recommendations for adjustment of priorities as needed.
  • Review and approve cost estimates and design calculations.
  • Serve as technical support for advanced automation systems.
  • Perform research into innovative design, operation and performance of the systems and/or processes.
  • Clearly define and manage project success metrics on an on-going basis even after the completion of projects.
  • Meet and communicate with Senior Leadership and external customers to provide updates, seek direction, give presentations, communicate success barriers, and showcase project results.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
  • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As a Robotics Engineer, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technologies Technology Research & Development team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on work load.

  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, preferred.
  • Prior experience in mechanical and/or electrical design, computer vision, artificial intelligence, or other related field. Systems analysis and design skills, required.
