What you’ll do

We’re looking for a Venture Architect to join the Innovation Management and Strategy team. The Venture Architect leads the full cycle of potential new ventures within ArcBest. This position seeks out, develops, implements, and continuously improves upon the new ventures. For each potential venture, the Venture Architect defines the value, runs and refines customer experiments to drive company growth, analyzes data to explain market performance, and works cross-functionally with teams spanning product, sales, marketing, engineering, finance, and more to develop new ventures, products, and services. This position is self-motivated, innovative, analytical, data-driven, and has exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. This position offers a high degree of responsibility and upper management exposure.

Your contribution may include:

  • Act as the incubation leader of potential new ventures within ArcBest.
  • Demonstrate leadership across all stages of the business model, including innovation, product development, incubation and commercialization.
  • Plan and deliver new ventures, products and services.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Product leads, as well as customers, to define a minimum viable business build (or product/service).
  • Assist the marketing and sales functions in creating asset or solution-related content such as case studies, videos, website copy and blog posts.
  • Test and validate assumptions with customers while creating a sensitivity analysis for key drivers.
  • Explore and analyze markets and trends in the industry for specific ventures.
  • Perform competitive analysis and identify current best practices and market leaders.
  • Size the existing customer market, as well as identify trends and relative positioning.
  • Establish key performance indicators for venture outcomes while also defining the business model and case for new ventures, products and services.
  • Define the business model options and case for new ventures, products and services.
  • Develop the economic model and business plan for new ventures, products and services
  • Assess internal capabilities and capacities to develop a sourcing strategy.
  • Create an executive summary (an overview and explanation of the project scope, objective and hypothesis) for new initiatives.
  • Develop and create IP (outside of venture work).
  • Protect the security of information on confidential projects.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As a Venture Architect, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technologies Innovation and Management Strategy team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Innovation, Engineering, Business, Economics, Design or related field, required. MBA or equivalent experience, preferably with a focus in entrepreneurship/innovation, preferred.

Experience: Experience with and knowledge of lean startup, design thinking, design/product management methods preferred. Experience in a start-up environment with exposure to multidisciplinary teams, preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Requirements: Interest in building and launching new products, businesses or teams/divisions.

Demonstrate ownership of complex projects or work from inception to delivery.

Knowledge of product prototyping and testing.

Familiarity and/or experience interviewing customers for market research

Comfort in customer facing roles (e.g., consulting, sales, sales support, customer service).
